The Accordion Photobioreactor, a patented technology developed at The University of Arizona and licensed to Biopharmia LLC, is designed to achieve high-productivity large-scale algae biomass production for desired application (nutraceuticals, animal feed, etc.). It consists of a transparent plastic culture vessel and a frame for support. The minimalistic design of the Accordion Photobioreactor results in reduced cost compared to conventional photobioreactor systems. Further, the unique wave configuration of the Accordion Photobioreactor results in effective culture mixing, low shear stress and improved gas exchange with simple aeration. Its light path length is adjustable by regulating the thickness of the Accordion culture vessel. These combined traits make the Accordion Photobioreactor a highly competitive and productive photobioreactor for the mass production of high-quality algae biomass and products.
