The Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture (GFIA), the world’s most influential event for the future of sustainable agriculture, has been recognised for its contribution to agricultural innovation by winning the prestigious “Best Conference” Award at the Middle East Event Awards ceremony, held recently in Dubai.
GFIA was launched earlier this year in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, in strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and has already established itself as a focal point for the expanding global movement to change the way we feed the world’s rapidly growing population.
The February 2014 event brought together stakeholders from across the agricultural spectrum – from government delegations and multinational agribusiness representatives to NGOs and innovators – for a comprehensive 3-day programme that saw keynote addresses from Bill Gates, Mark Post (the scientist behind “the lab burger”) and Andras Forgacs, a pioneer of cultured meat and leather, alongside over 150 innovation presentations, 126 exhibitors from 31 countries, 22 supporting organisations, 17 participating NGOs and ministerial delegations from 6 countries including the UAE, Netherlands, Ghana, Zambia, Kenya and Tanzania.
“We are delighted to win the Best Conference category for GFIA 2014 – this award reflects the hard work and determination of both the GFIA team and our global network of supporters, sponsors and ambassadors. From the outset GFIA was an ambitious project with a clear set of objectives, the main one being to serve as a catalyst for change in the way the world currently grows food. We have laid a solid foundation for years to come,” said Chris Fountain, Managing Director of Turret Media, organisers of GFIA.
The Middle East Events Awards ceremony, presented by UK TV host and stand-up comedian Phil Jupitus, is the highlight of the year for the events industry, with companies from across the region submitting entries. This is the third award for GFIA organisers Turret Media, having previously won Best Launch for the World Future Energy Summit and Best Consumer Event for Taste of Dubai.
With GFIA the only major global international exhibition and conference that focuses on how technology can be employed to sustainably produce more food and energy whilst using less resources, and with the inaugural event such a success, plans are to make GFIA 2015 even broader in scale and scope, bringing together diverse stakeholders from across the world in order to foster cross-fertilisation of ideas and continue to drive innovation for an agricultural revolution.
